Pho Le located in Berlin, NJ is a fairly new restaurant, in business since 2014. It is small, but quaint with a feeling of authentic Vietnamese cultural throughout. The wait staff offers friendly and polite service, while delivering generous portioned entree’s fast and hot!

We started by sampling a few eye catching appetizers from the menu. Although we wanted to try them all, we selected the Grilled Meat Balls, Char-grilled Pork Rolls, and Vegetable Spring Rolls. Talk about DELICIOUS, the mini meat balls came with lettuce, cucumber, noodles, a soy sauce which was mildly sweet and rice paper to roll up everything together. I chose to grab a meat ball with some noodles and green onion, dipped it into the sauce, and the taste was spell bounding. Coming from an Italian who loves her Italian style meat balls, these little suckers ranked high on my palate. Both the Vegetable Spring Rolls and the Char-grilled Pork Rolls were a great choice. The doughy consistency from the rice paper wrapped around crisp veggies and perfectly seasoned Asian pork then dipped in that sweet sauce was a blissful explosion of flavor and layered texture in my mouth.

For the main dish I chose the Wonton Noodle soup and my husband had the Shrimp Pad Thai. Most of the dishes and appetizers are served with crushed peanuts, but the staff was more than happy to omit them if requested. The Wonton Noodle Soup is my personal favorite, it comes out with a side plate full of fresh bean sprouts, basil, cilantro, and jalapeno for seasoning. The soup its self offers a comfort feel with tender duck filled wontons, rice noodles, fresh green onion, and crispy fried onions in a subtle clear broth. With a squirt of sriracha from the table and some added crunchy bean sprouts my soup was suburb. Because the bowl was big enough for a small family, I had some left overs to enjoy for lunch the next day!

Of course I had to try the Shrimp Pad Thai that my husband ordered and I can’t say I was surprised at how good it was. The fresh shrimp were pleasantly juicy and flavored with a hint of tang atop smooth, yet interestingly sweet egg noodles. The combination was flawless with a nice touch of fried eggs and vegetables that only added to the appealing taste.

The overall experience at Pho Le’s is sensational for authentic Vietnamese cuisine at a very affordable price!
