Kunkle’s in Haddon Heights, NJ established in 1979 is a family owned and operated restaurant offering a enjoyable experience from the superb service to the exquisite menu items. Everything on the menu is made in the restaurant and cooked to order. The ambiance is ideal for a romantic setting or just a night out with family or friends. Sip on your favorite wine in front of the charming fireplace while you wait for your meals to arrive.

This is not my first time dining at Kunkle’s, but after every meal I walk away feeling more pleased than the time before. We started with a few appetizers, the Steamed P.E.I Mussels in red sauce with toasted bread for dipping were full of a tangy, yet luscious tomato flavor, and the Fiery Thai Calamari is easily the best tasting calamari I’ve ever had. The sweet and spicy Thai sauce paired impeccably with the salty crunch of the fried calamari. As if the starters weren’t enough, the soup special for the night was a rich and creamy shrimp bisque topped with large pieces of fresh shrimp. At this point I was busting at the seams, but could not wait for the main course.

The Lobster Butter Baked Flounder served with haricot vert and mashed potatoes was a phenomenal choice. The flounder was light, flaky, and moist topped with buttery lump crab meat, large shrimp, sweet sun dried tomatoes and a delicate velvety lobster butter sauce that melts in your mouth. The crunchy and perfectly garlic seasoned  haricot vert were a great addition, as it added texture to the dish.

After all the delicious entrees, I really had no room for dessert, but that of course did not stop me. The decadent blueberry bread pudding was delightfully sweetened and served warm topped with a savory homemade blueberry sauce. Just thinking about it again makes my mouth water!

I had the pleasure of sampling my husbands dinner and dessert as well. He ordered the Seafood Pescatore dinner special in a Fra Diablo red sauce. The dish was spiced to perfection with crushed red pepper introducing layers of heat and flavor with every bite from the generous portions of fresh clams, shrimp, and mussels over linguine. For dessert he went with his personal favorite, creme brulee.

With a variety of menu options including seafood, pasta, and steak, the charismatic atmosphere, and flawless service you will definitely find something to love about Kunkle’s!
